Caltrain starts a soft launch of electric train service tomorrow, August 11. A few electric trains will be in service tomorrow, interspersed with the old diesel trains and still running the current service. Caltrain isn’t announcing which trains will be electric during the soft launch period.
More electric trains will be added in incrementally, and the full fleet will be electric between San Francisco and the San Jose Tamien station on September 21 with the new schedule!
On Saturday there was a preview ride with politicians and transit advocates that had helped bring about electric service over the years.
Assembly Member Ting and Senator Wiener reminded the audience about the work the State legislature did last year and the work needed ahead to make sure the trains and buses continue to run.
