At long last, the Bay Bridge Bus Bill AB 455 (Wicks, Wiener), is coming to a vote in the Senate Transportation Committee this Tuesday, June 14th! Although the bill passed the Assembly in 2021, it got held up in committee and its fate was uncertain.
But after much collaboration between the Transbay Coalition, the Assemblymember’s office, Caltrans, AC Transit, MTC and SPUR, AB 455 has been amended so that it is more workable for all parties while still ensuring it supports faster, more reliable, equitable, and greener travel across the corridor to keep the Bay Area’s people and economy moving quickly.
The main change is now the bill that requires the various relevant agencies to collaborate to establish “ambitious bus speed and reliability performance targets and consider a wide range of operational and capital improvements in order to achieve fast and reliable bus transit within the corridor.” In short, it sets high standards for the agencies but gives them flexibility in how they go about meeting them. You can check out the amended bill here.
And now the bill is set to be voted on in the Senate Transportation Committee this Tuesday 6/14/2022.
