Halt AC Transit’s Proposed Fare Hikes

In Spring 2024, Transbay Coalition led a successful campaign to get the AC Transit Board of Directors to reject a proposed 20% fare increase. Raising bus fares burdens all riders and especially low-income riders who have no other transportation option. Higher transit fares also pushes more people to drive, increasing congestion and emissions. Transbay Coalition volunteers sprang into action to stop the hike, building a coalition of allies and mobilizing riders in the region. Thanks to our advocacy and community members speaking out at the board meeting, the AC Transit Board of Directors ultimately voted “No” to raising fares; protecting all riders, keeping climate-harming emissions low, and helping prevent a transit death spiral.
